what is invisalign

What is Invisalign®?

  • The Invisalign System is a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth and is the most advanced clear aligner system in the world, backed up by over 20 years of innovation. It has helped to improve the smiles of over 15 million people, including 4 million teens!
  • Invisalign aligners are an ideal treatment option for patients who would be self-conscious about wearing fixed braces. Instead of using traditional bracket and wire braces, Invisalign treatment uses discrete, clear plastic aligners to move the teeth and are barely noticeable.
  • Invisalign aligners are custom-made to the exact specifications of your teeth to ensure a perfect, comfortable fit.
  • Each aligner is worn full-time and changed every 7-10 days and with each new aligner change, the teeth incrementally move into their new position towards your beautiful new smile.
  • But it’s not just the invisible element that makes Invisalign treatment popular; the aligners are removable so you can take them out for eating, tooth brushing and important social engagements!

Make Invisalign® fit in with your lifestyle!

Benefits of Invisalign®

  • Low visibility – Invisalign aligners are made from a clear, medical grade plastic which means they are virtually invisible when placed over your teeth.
  • Removable – your oral health won’t be affected by Invisalign aligners because you simply remove them for eating as well as brushing and flossing the teeth.
  • Confidence – wearing Invisalign aligners won’t affect your lifestyle. You can still play sports, musical instruments, go out with friends or deliver business presentations – just take the aligners out during this time and replace them afterwards!
  • Comfortable – no metal brackets or wires to irritate your gums or mouth. Invisalign aligners have clinically proven results and more often than not, they can straighten teeth as fast as traditional fixed braces!

*Your Invisalign® Journey*

Seven simple steps to your Invisalign® smile…..

At Newbury Orthodontic Centre, we are using a host of advanced digital technologies for all our Invisalign® aligner treatments. The Invisalign treatment pathway uses revolutionary Apps, 3D digital scanning technology and AI enhanced software to maximize your experience to give you the best treatment results.

Initial Consultation 1 Initial Consultation

Initial Consultation

During your in-person assessment, the Specialist Orthodontist will examine your teeth and bite and discuss your orthodontic options to see if Invisalign® treatment is suitable for your tooth straightening needs.

Digital scan 2 Digital Scan

Digital Scan

If you are deemed suitable for Invisalign® aligner treatment and are keen to proceed, the next step is to obtain a fully digitized 3D scan of your teeth and bite using our state-of-the-art 5D iTero® digital scanner. It is much more accurate, quicker and a more pleasant experience than those traditional messy dental impressions!

Clincheck 3 ClinCheck

ClinCheck

Once your digital scan is received back from Invisalign®, the Specialist Orthodontist will perform a ClinCheck® which uses 3D animation software to virtually plan how your teeth and smile will look after treatment. This is an innovative way to see your own smile ‘Before and After’ treatment. Once the planning is complete, the ClinCheck® simulation is approved for your aligners to be made!

Fit aligners 4 Fit Aligners

Fit Aligners

Next, you will need to attend to have your aligners fitted! As part of the aligner fitting appointment, very small translucent ‘attachments’ will needed to be placed on some of the teeth and are made from a tooth-filling material. The attachments are barely visible and are an important component of aligner treatment as they help to improve the speed, efficiency and predictability of tooth movement.

During Treatment 5 During Treatment

During Treatment

You will receive an aligner for every planned tooth movement made during treatment and will need to change the aligners every 7-10 days. Aligners must be removed for eating, brushing/flossing and contact sport but otherwise need to be worn at all times. If worn as prescribed, normally 22 hours per day, you will get the results you are looking for!

Digital Monitoring of Invisalign 6 Digital Progress Monitoring

Virtual Care

At the start of your Invisalign journey, our Specialists are able to offer you virtual monitoring of your treatment using the latest AI-enhanced software. Dental Monitoring is a revolutionary way to monitor treatment virtually and this improvement to the patient experience not only helps to dramatically reduce the number of face-to-face appointments, but is also a more accurate way of monitoring treatment progress to ensure everything stays on track!

Completing treatment with Retainers 7 Completing Treatment

Completing Treatment

Once you have completed your orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® aligners and have created that beautiful new smile, it’s very important to ensure that the teeth don’t move following treatment. This is achieved by wearing custom-made Retainers which help to ensure that your teeth stay straight and your smile, beautiful, for years to come!

Invisalign FAQs

At what age can you start Invisalign® treatment?

Invisalign® aligners can be used to successfully treat both adults and teenagers! Typically, Invisalign treatment starts when all the adult teeth have erupted and for the majority of teen patients, this is between the ages of 12-14. An innovative new addition to the Invisalign range is Invisalign First treatment which is aimed at pre-teenage children normally under 10 years of age. Your Specialist Orthodontist will able to determine the best age to start your Invisalign treatment based on your specific needs.

Is Invisalign® treatment painful?

Invisalign® aligners are custom made to fit your teeth and because of this, they are normally very comfortable to wear. The aligners work by gently applying a constant pressure to the teeth which gradually moves the teeth. Some people do feel minor temporary discomfort for the first few days when starting a new set of aligners but the discomfort is easily manageable with pain relief. Typically, people describe the discomfort as ‘pressure’ on the teeth and it is normal- it is a sign that the aligners are working to transform your smile!

How much should I wear my Invisalign® aligners?

For the best results, your Specialist Orthodontist will recommend wearing your aligners between 20-22 hours a day, taking them out only for eating, drinking (except plain water), brushing and flossing. You can also take them out for special occasions such as a wedding or job interview but remember that the more the aligners are worn, the better the results will be!

Are Invisalign® aligners a good alternative to traditional braces?

Invisalign® treatment can be a great treatment choice for both adults and teens looking for a virtually invisible way to straighten their teeth and improve their smile. With the advancement in aligner technology, it is now possible to treat the majority of simple and more complex tooth-straightening and bite issues with Invisalign aligners. Your Specialist Orthodontist will be able to recommend to you the best possible treatment option.

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

The length of your treatment depends on multiple factors such as how complex your case is and how often you change your aligners. Your Specialist Orthodontist will be able to determine how long your treatment will take based on your specific treatment needs. On average, Invisalign aligner treatment takes between 12-18 months although you can start seeing results in a matter of weeks. More simple cases can often be treated in as little as 6 months!

How often will I have appointments with my Specialist Orthodontist?

Once your Invisalign® treatment starts, we will virtually monitor your treatment progress with the revolutionary Dental Monitoring App. Weekly scans of your teeth are taken and sent to your Specialist Orthodontist and with the help of AI technology, your treatment progress is closely monitored to ensure it stays on track! Virtual care also drastically reduces the number of appointment visits to the surgery, perfect for those people with busy lives!
